The Priority of Agricultural Investments in 2020, Irrigation Systems
A total of 3.4 billion Turkish Lira of public funding allocated for the agricultural sector was directed to irrigation projects.
Irrigation took the top priority in the investment program, followed by plant production and forestry initiatives.
The 2020 investment schedule includes 289 agricultural projects with a total project value of 187.3 billion Turkish Lira and cumulative spending of 79.3 billion Turkish Lira for 2019. The program consists of 289 agricultural initiatives with a total realized investment value recorded at 79.3 billion Turkish Lira.
5.2 billion Turkish Lira of resources were budgeted for the agricultural sector in this year’s national investment planning.
It was officially announced that 1 billion 99 million Turkish Lira would be used for new projects, 3 billion 748 million Turkish Lira for ongoing projects, and 330.8 million Turkish Lira would be allocated for feasibility and survey (study) projects.
Out of the total investment budget, 3.4 billion Turkish Lira will be used for 192 irrigation-related projects. Of this irrigation budget, 3.3 billion Turkish Lira will be implemented by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) General Directorate across 184 projects.
After irrigation systems, plant production became the second largest investment category with a budget of 747.2 million Turkish Lira. This category includes 48 separate projects. Of this budget, 292.7 million Turkish Lira will be funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, while 250 million Turkish Lira will be undertaken by DSİ.
The forestry sector followed plant production with 24 projects and a total investment volume of 719.9 million Turkish Lira. Of this investment allocation, 703.3 million Turkish Lira will be carried out under the authority of the Forestry General Directorate.
The priority work areas covered in DSİ-led irrigation planning include;
Water storage infrastructure
Water transport and transmission lines
Irrigation line modernization
Flood prevention and protection structures
Land reclamation and irrigation improvement projects
In addition to irrigation-focused investments, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will also implement;
Agricultural settlement and rural housing projects
Scientific research and examination on plant diseases
Programs to enhance agricultural production capacity
Strategic land-use planning studies and similar development projects
